2023 KCM Spring Conference kicks off Sunday

Posted on April 12, 2023

The 2023 Kansas Collegiate Media Spring Conference is right around the corner, and we hope you are as excited as we are.

Everything takes place April 16-17 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview, located at 400 West Douglas Ave. in Wichita.

Registration begins at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 16. We’ll have a swap table near registration, so please bring copies of your publications to share with other schools.

Back by popular demand, we will be hosting a copy editing contest. Up to three students per school can participate. It will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Students can sign up when they get to the conference, so bring an AP Stylebook.

Also at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, we’ll have a “meet the pro” networking event. The pros will be at separate tables ready to chat with students about jobs, internships, resumes, portfolios — whatever the students would like to talk about. Students are encouraged to bring resumes and work samples to share and discuss. Most of the organizations represented are looking for interns and/or hires! Five are listed on the program now, but that list might grow before Sunday.

Throughout the afternoon, everyone can hear from our stellar speakers, and we’ll announce a few of the individual contest winners following dinner.

After a day filled with learning and a few awards announcements, everyone will be ready to blow off some steam. That’s why we have The Arcade (139 N Mead St.) to ourselves from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., and most of the games will be on free play. The Arcade is near Old Town — not too far, but you’ll definitely need to drive.

The festivities resume at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 17. More incredible speakers will be doling out their knowledge. Then, at noon, we will enjoy lunch and hand out the remaining awards.

You can see all of this and more in the conference schedule, which is embedded below.

So get excited! We are looking forward to seeing you all and celebrating our Kansas collegiate journalists!
